RACHEL WILLIAMS DESIGNS

Remember last week when I talked about control and vulnerability and loving my art regardless of what expectations I have of it? How every choice is mine, blah blah blah (see "Control" blog post if you're lost)

That’s not the case for this one -

This is just random stuff I pulled out of the depths of my Lightroom catalog and threw together in an attempt to make something cool… but I don’t have an idea behind it. This one is just here because it exists and I want to share it.

Until about 3 years ago, this is how I created. I'd pull random elements from random places and put them together randomly, then throw it at my teacher or my friends and say look!!! what do you think!! and they would tell me all these amazing things they thought about this random art I had literally thrown together. Typically, I'd just nod and agree with whatever meaning they found.

There was actually one time I had posted one of these random images and weeks later my Dad reached out and asked me to explain the piece. I "explained" that it had no meaning and was 100% random - just there to look cool - and he told me he had been pondering the piece for weeks, trying to figure out what my reasoning had been for every little thing. I couldn't help but laugh!! The poor man was frustrated and confused, only to learn that he had more of an answer than I did :)

For the most part I've stopped creating this way, because I've found it's more theraputic and more of a learning/growing experience for me when I try to illustrate a certain concept - besides, I'm the kind of person who likes everything to have purpose and meaning. My source of inspiration has also changed drastically.

So we'll chalk this one up to a throwback, and I'll ask -

What do YOU see in this?

All I can see are the pony tail holders on my wrists... LOL
